Population Growth in Southern Indiana

Counties in southern Indiana have generally showed growth in population over time but Monroe County is distinct in population growth especially after 1940. This increase reflects the high degree of urbanization in and around the city of Bloomington (county seat and site of Indiana University main campus).

The other counties do not contain large cities and tend to have more stable populations. Similarity among the population growth in: Lawrence, Jackson, and Dubois counties.

Orange, Perry, Crawford, and Martin counties also show similarities in their population growth
