Empirical techniques for testing agent based models
Workshop Dates: June 2-4, 2005.
Location: The workshop will be held at the Bloomington campus of Indiana University.
Agent based modeling techniques have become increasingly important tools for understanding how micro level processes interact and aggregate up to produce macro level ecological and economic patterns. The initial incarnations of these models were designed and simulated in abstract or purely hypothetical environments, not necessarily tied to a particular ecological landscape or economic market. More recently a variety of agent based models (ABMs) have been applied to settings with the more specific goal of explaining observed phenomena. The goal of this workshop is to discuss methods to test and compare models on empirical data using laboratory experiments, survey data, GIS information, participatory modeling techniques, etc.
This workshop is funded through a NSF Biocomplexity grant.
